Night Worker Medicals
Night worker health assessments are a highly cost-effective way to stay on the right side of the law. They can also help you support the health and well-being of your night workers.
Under the Working Time Regulations, all night workers are to be offered an initial and an annual health assessment. A night worker is classified as an individual who regularly works for more than three hours during the period 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. The assessment is voluntary and additional to any other health assessment undertaken. Completed questionnaires, are designed to identify possible areas of special need in relation to night work.
Our fee includes a certificate advising you are either suitable to continue night work, or you are unfit to continue with night work (temporary or permanent).
We can provide our services remotely or visit one of our clinic in 25+ locations across the nation.

Why should i get a night worker medical?
- Irregular hours of work and work patterns that include night and early morning shifts can lead to disruption of the internal body clock, sleeping difficulties and fatigue.
- If workers are fatigued, they will be less alert, their reaction time will be slower, they will find it harder to concentrate, and they may make poor decisions. This can lead to accidents and injuries.
- There are certain medical conditions which may require taking regular medication, and this may be difficult to administer when working shifts/nightwork.
- There may be a requirement for workplace adjustments for some employees.
Is it mandatory?
The Working Time Regulations 1998 mandate that employers must offer night workers a free health assessment before they start night work, upon request or regularly thereafter. While not legally required, workers over 50 have grounds for more frequent assessments. Assessments should consider conditions, intensity of night schedule, worker well-being, and condition management. These regulations also govern the working hours of night workers, setting limits on weekly hours and requiring regular health assessments. Employers must offer assessments to night workers with health issues exacerbated by night work, regardless of request.
